Carnivorous Plants

I became interested in carnivorous plants during the winter of 2022 while looking out the window at the bare trees, my garden covered in snow, and winter birds in a feeding frenzy over the seeds we had put out for them. Nature is so amazing! But as I stayed in my cozy indoor environment, I suddenly had the urge to know more about plants and their survival mechanisms. That was when I came across the fascinating world of carnivorous plants – their strange appearances, their unique environments and mechanics, and also the researchers who first studied them, such as Charles Darwin and Mary Treat.

We typically think of plants as helpless victims who rely on the sun and rain, and often become food for hungry animals and humans as the bottom of the food chain. But carnivorous plants are meat eaters, with sharp teeth, sticky tentacles, and deadly poisons that are perfect for catching insects and even small mammals. When faced with creatures like that, my imagination just runs wild, and this print series is the result.
